WOULD YOU EAT BUGS?

 BUGS FOR DINNER?

WARNING A LITTLE GRAPHIC...

Crushed Bugs Are Being Secretly Added to Pasta Sauce and Cereal.

THIS IS FROM EPOCH NEWS - Thursday January 26, 2023.

"Due to the European Commission passing a measure last month, Europeans have noticed more powered crickets have been appearing in foods such as pizza sauce, cereal, and pasta all across Europe.

The European Food Safety Authority stated the insect “additive is safe to use in a whole range of products, including but not limited to cereal bars, biscuits, pizza, pasta-based products, and whey powder.”

The trend of eating insects has increased among environmentalists because they believe eating insects cut the carbon footprint."

Maybe this is not true, or I'm bad for posting this - but I want you to be knowledgeable it is a possibility.  So, if you like bugs or they don't bother you - fine, but I don't want to eat bugs myself.  As long as it is a choice fine, but I don't want them hidden in my food.

So, do you think by eating them it will help the carbon footprint?

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

LOVE, CHATTY

Info Wars had more on the story:

As of yesterday, a food additive made out of powdered crickets began appearing in foods from pizza, to pasta to cereals across the European Union.

Defatted house crickets are on the menu for Europeans across the continent, without the vast majority of them knowing it is now in their food.

“This comes thanks to a European Commission ruling passed earlier this month,” reports RT.

“As per the decision, which cited the scientific opinion of the European Food Safety Authority, the additive is safe to use in a whole range of products, including but not limited to cereal bars, biscuits, pizza, pasta-based products, and whey powder.”

But don’t worry, because the crickets first have to be checked to make sure they “discard their bowel content” before being frozen.

Critics suggested that once bugs become widely accepted as a food additive, their consumption will become normalized across the board.

I'd be okay to eat bugs as additives to sauces and such - or at least try it to see how it tastes. Other countries - Asia mostly, I think - snack on crickets and grasshoppers and make other things from bees and whatnot (I remember seeing bee dishes in a story during the Japan Olympics).

I like how the article adds "...crickets first have to be checked to make sure they “discard their bowel content” before being frozen". Thanks for that!

No, I would not eat bugs, given the choice. I guess I should check the contents of my food more carefully. I would hope that they would let us know if bugs were in the contents.

Definitely NOT my choice of food addition. I remember hearing of chocolate covered grasshoppers etc. never wanted to try it. The carbon food print? I think I will leave that to birds and bees to eat other insects. LOL
Good entry and also interesting.
Take care of yourownself and stay warm down in Atlanta!
Love from NC Sherry & jack enjoying some sun today..

No bugs for me! The coat rack is a great idea. Love the joke. That is true about time.

Yuck, I would prefer eating my pasta and foods without bugs. Can't believe this. Now, if I was starving or abandoned in a blizzard (I just watched Arctic), I think I would. Powdered crickets?....oh my. The shoe rack is a clever idea. That would be nice to have around here. Nel has a wooden shelf on the ground right by her back door, and it's really convenient for them to take off their shoes and place them there. It's pretty cool.

A happy week to you, Sandie.

So my first question is...does this powdered cricket powder have a name? I will Google it. Because than we could just read the label to see if it is in our food. I would NEVER!!!! But I have heard they are a great source of protein.

I did hear that in parts of Europe they were going to put bugs on the lunch menu for children. I am so sick of the green energy folks decided how we should live an eat. I thought this was a free country. No I will not eat bugs. UGH Janice

Gross!!!!! Not by choice, no. Then again, I rarely eat any of those food types you mentioned. So glad I got all the international travel out of my system in case I'm ever temped to go back. LOL!

The answer is No, no bugs.
Here's a story for you. On our Passover holiday
we tend to eat fish balls bought in glass jars specially for the holiday. Once, I noticed in the remaing sauce - worms. I
couldn't believe it , so I turned to Google. There it was. Crab fish meat carries with it worms even in cooking. So, I stopped buying it.

I'm pretty sure at least the bug powder wouldn't be hidden behind some weird name, as it'd mean the food would no longer be suitable for vegetarians. That way the green folks are shooting themselves in the foot. I personally wouldn't mind eating bugs but I'd want to know that I'd be eating them, such as like a fried grasshopper.

I've eaten chocolate-covered grasshoppers once. Tasted like... chocolate-covered grasshoppers! That was years ago and it was done on a dare.

No, I won't be partaking in the bug-eating this culture is now trying to push on us. Nope, I won't. It's ridiculous and unnecessary.

It's always best to read the labels on any food that you eat ...

I prefer to eat whole fresh food.

I heard about this too. Honestly, I have had to tune out most of the stuff rolling down the internet pipe lately {For mental health reasons}. But to answer your question..I would probably eat it unknowingly because the additives in food that we already eat are also pretty horrifying. I have tried, and will again try to eat only things that have one ingredient..Like "eggs, apples, raisins, etc..even though even these things can be tampered with in harvesting or production packing. Gotta ask God to bless it to our bodies..especially these days!

I am willing to guess that we eat a lot of bugs without having a clue.

Oops, I can't believe I missed this post.

Eating bugs in this day and age is repulsive to me. OK, I know that St John the Baptist are locusts but he was out in the wilderness. I can't even stand accidentally swallowing a mosquito.

It goes to prove those in power are beasts. Let them eat bugs.

Hugs,
Julia

Bugs...Lord, no. Yuck. But we have been eating hot dogs for years. Don't look up what they are made of!
