"Harland David Sanders, better known as Colonel Sanders (September 9, 1890 – December 16, 1980.

Sanders was born to a Presbyterian family in Henryville, Indiana. His father, Wilbur David Sanders, died when he was five years old, and since his mother worked, he was required to cook for his family. He dropped out of school in seventh grade. When his mother remarried he ran away from home because his stepfather beat him. During his early years, Sanders worked many jobs and enlisted in the Army as a private when he was only 16 years old (by lying about his age).

At the age of 40, Sanders cooked chicken dishes and other meals for people who stopped at his service station in Corbin, Kentucky. Since he did not have a restaurant, he served customers in his living quarters in the service station. His local popularity grew, and Sanders moved to a motel and restaurant that seated 142 people and worked as the chef. Over the next nine years, he developed his method of cooking chicken. Furthermore, he made use of a pressure fryer that allowed the chicken to be cooked much faster than by pan frying.

Sanders took to franchising Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants, starting at age 65, using $105 from his first Social Security check to fund visits to potential franchisees." Wikipedia

Who says it's too late to start something new?

I went to see the movie yesterday - All About Steve with Sandra Bullock. I thought it was really cute. Not great, but certainly worth seeing and even buying.

It was about learning to accept yourself for who you are and not trying to be something you're not - which we have all heard, but with a slightly different twist.

Don't try to fit in with others who are not like you or don't like the same things or don't want the same things in life, try to find people who fit in with who you are who have similar interests and talents. A little different spin on an age old issue.

Mary was a delightful character, slightly irregular, extremely smart, wide eyed innocence, openly loving, and a real talker (lol). She learned to grow up too.

"If you love someone let them go, if you have to stalk them, they were never yours to begin with." Sandra Bullock/Mary

Think there may be a lesson in that for me too.

We toured the museum dedicated to him in Corbin, Ky. It was well worth going on the back roads to find.
Very interesting!
Oh man, was wondering about the Sandra Bullock movie. Love Mary's quote!

We saw his grave at Cave Hill cemetary in Louisville where some of my family are buried. Um, his grave was quite a lot grander than anyone I was related to ;>)). Cool fact that he started his career about when most of us are ending ours.

I've been trying to find people who did things in the 'middle' of their life to give us (me) inspiration. Thanks.
