Thinking about music . . . music is a blessing

I have joined Cindy's Blog - at Country Blessings at Lakewood. It is going to be the first Saturday of the month! I feel full of blessings - so this one should be easy for me. Check out Country Blessings to see her meaning behind it.

Music can be all things to all persons. It is like a great dynamic sun in the center of a solar system which sends out its rays and inspiration in every direction....Music makes us feel that the heavens open and a divine voice calls. Something in our souls responds and understands. - Leopold Stokowski

To me - music is a blessing. How can you not feel blessed when you hear music? All the different things that go into it - talent - instruments - words - etc.

I would love to know what you're favorite songs are, but when I asked it of myself - I have so many. I love Christian songs and country songs. I even like pops songs. so how can I pick one.

So if you can't pick a favorite song or two - tell me what music does to you.

If I am stressed I like to just listen to something calming - I like Andrea Bocelli.

Christian I like Josh Groban.

Country - Keith Urban!

Pop - Snow Patrol.

Love - Joshua Kadison.

Music can change my mood. It can make me happy. I exercise to it.

So do you like music - what does it do to you? Any favorite songs?

Hope you enjoy this love song -

Happy Birthday Tim McGraw - wikipedia

Tim McGraw was born Samuel Timothy McGraw in Delhi, Louisiana,to a waitress, Elizabeth "Betty" Ann, and a relief pitcher for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, Frank Edwin McGraw Jr., also known as Tug McGraw. In 1966, Tug was a pitcher for the Jacksonville Suns, and he lived in an apartment above Betty D'Agostino, who attended Terry Parker High School. The pair had a relationship, and when Betty became pregnant, her parents sent her to Louisiana to live with relatives and to have the baby.

Raised by his mother in Start, Louisiana, east of Monroe, McGraw grew up believing his stepfather, Horace Smith, was his birth father. At age eleven, McGraw discovered his birth certificate while searching his mother's closet to find pictures for a school project. After his discovery, his mother revealed that his biological father was Tug McGraw, and took Tim to meet him for the first time. For seven years, Tug denied being Tim's father. Tim was 18 years old when Tug first realized how much Tim looked like him at that age, and he acknowledged paternity. They remained close until Tug's death in 2004.

As a child, Tim McGraw loved to play competitive sports, including baseball, even though he did not know his biological father was a professional athlete. He attended Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, on a baseball scholarship, and became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. During his college period, he learned to play guitar, and would frequently perform and sing for tips, although he claims that his roommates often hid the guitar because he was so bad.

His mother, Betty, returned to Jacksonville, Florida in 1987, and Tim followed. He attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville for one term, and occasionally sat in with local bands.

Loved you in Blindside. What a great husband. lol

Sandie, I wrote a paper in high school on the topic of music and its effect on many aspects of our lives. As a result I won a $500 scholarship! In today's terms not much but at the time one semester cost me $400 so it was a big deal to me.

Its so hard to imagine life without music. I went to Berry College and while there, two of the faculty members who had been at the school since its earliest days and married at the House of Dreams shared something that I've cherished since. When these two decided to marry, they went to Miss Berry to ask her if they could have their wedding at her cottage at the top of Lavender Mountain. These two were both very poor so there was no money for all the trimmings that brides spend thousands on these days. It was so sweet when they said they decided to have the wedding outside so that nature provided the music. To them, nothing was more beautiful that the sounds given to us from above. In spite of our busy lives I try to find stillness so that I can listen to the music God had given us.

I have a good post in the works for Spiritual Sunday and it also based on MUSIC! Musicals people are better at math! Hmmm...I missed my calling. I enjoyed your post Sandie! I have to agree with Noni, I used to love music, all music but mostly music I could identify with. Now I mostly prefer the quite. Music I loved in my younger days just seem to make me sad, more than anything and I can't tolerate listening to it.
I love the Celtic Women, there music is so soothing and I like Josh Groban
I used to love Country, but it's not country any more it more rock mix.
I like Tim McGraw and the fact he married a Mississippi girl didn't hurt...lol..I have been through Delhi and Start several times.

Yep we're huge Tim McGraw fans. I like music most when I am in my art room/studio! And indeed the choice of music I put in determines the type art I create. I don't care for music in the car unless it is a road trip. I rarely listen to music while up and about unless it is Christmas time. As far as spiritual no one can do for me what Jimmy Swaggart does with his beautiful voice. And in the other genres I have soo many favies. Have a happy weekend, XXMollye

I love music, too, but for some crazy reason, I don't listen to it much. I am hinting for a IHome player for my IPod for Mother's Day!!

Hi Sandie Sweetie...
I wanted to pop over today and let you know that I am thinking of you. I said a few prayers for you. I know things are going to be hard for awhile sweetie. Just know that I am here for you.

Music takes us to a beautiful place doesn't it? I am like you I love all music, except for the Hard Banger stuff and I have no use for that. It drives me crazy. I like to hear the tunes and learn the words.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you. Hope your day was filled with happiness and sunshine. Country hugs sweetie and much love...Sherry

Hi Sandie...Music is, indeed, a blessing. And it's a GREAT blessing at that. What would life be like without music? I would not want to know. Thanks for the post and for information on the new Saturday blessings! Very nice idea. Sincerely, Susan

Thanks Sandie for joining in on the first 'Count Your Blessings'. I got into country music because of Tim McGraw. By accident, I heard a song of his and there was no turning back for me. I even went to see him in concert. I can't sing a note or play an instrument so I really appreciate those who can!
Country Blessings,
Cindy

this was fun to read, Sandie, especially the groups and types of music you like. I never heard of Snow Patrol; I'll have to check them out. I know there is a lot to be said about music, it does bring out emotions in people ranging from happiness to sadness to pain to comfort, etc based on the type of music and the words sung. It can make us angry or it can soothe us. It can calm us or agitate us. Again a wide variety of emotions and a wide variety of types of music to hear and to play.

Lately I've just been enjoying Christian praise music :)

hoping you have a nice Saturday :)
