Something to think about. . . Saturday's

For today's something to think about - Chinese philosopher Lin Yu-tang wrote...

"The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have, and to be able to lose all desire for things beyond your reach."

What do you tink about this quote. I think the first part is correct - The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have . . . but what about the part - to be able to lose all desire of things beyond your reach. . . do we want to lose all desire of things beyoung our reach?

Maybe we shouldn't desire things beyond our reach or are they just our dreams for a better life - goals - hopes?

Something you may want to see it might save your life or the life of someone you know . . .

Happy Birthday Virginia Satir - I like the way you think!

“I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, heard by them, to be understood and touched by them.”

Hey Sandie!

Thanks for the fire warning tip! I try not to leave the stove when I'm cooking but sometimes you have to leave and you just never know. I remember back when I first started cooking I actually would burn boiled eggs! All of the water would boil out and the egg shells would get burnt too. One time they actually exploded! Yes, it happened more than one time back then! lol

Hugs,
Angela

I think we should have desires to achieve more then we have! I am happy with what I have but think goals and desires are not a bad thing!

I am very thankful for what I have but I do have special dreams too and I believe that's a good thing.

Enjoyed your post today......I have to remind myself sometimes to slow down and stop and smell the roses. And to take in everything around me and appreciate where I live and those people in my life.

It was so nice to get a chance to meet you and all the girls in person yesterday! What a fun break it was for me! Looking forward to future luncheons with my blogger friends.

eerie, scary, but oh so necessary to be aware of. Thanks for that tip!
I agree with the contentment quote...it's the material things we should end our yen for...
Thanks so much for my little pkg. in today's mail. How thoughtful!!

Hi Sandie, cutie patootie pup there..great post..I think it's fine to dream of bigger things..not because we need material items so much, but maybe dreams of being a successful wife, mom, or whatever we can contribute to society for the better..

The second part sort of puts a heavy foot on dreams. If you shoot for the moon and miss, you still might reach the stars! ;-) I think dreaming big and still being content is the place to be.

Sheila :-)

I definitely enjoy what I have but I haven't lost my desire to have other dreams come true. I don't think I'll ever lose that. Susan

I'm content with what I have, Sandie, though its taken a long time to get there. I don't dream too much about wanting more riches or possessions, just more wisdom, deeper understanding of God, etc. things eternal rather than temporal, know what I mean?

The fire tip is a good one wish I know it a few years back when my sons kitchen caught fire and I was there....but I didn't and it caught fire. Trish

This post speaks to me, as I have been struggling emotionally and mentally of late..."To lose all desire for things beyond your reach"...hummm, to me, that means not to even bother thinking about tomorrow, because then one is not living TODAY. I am SO GUILTY of this!!!

I like Virginia's quote. It reminds me of my favorite line in AVATAR, "I SEE YOU". For me, her quote sums up those three little words.

I love the quote ... it never hurts to wish for anything or strie to reach what is beyond your reach ... giving you the drive/challenge to pursue.

TY for your sweet visit, CC. I have over 1,200 of the "Love Is ..." cartoons & love them all ... I'd love to see yours ... how many do you have?

I am doing better ... just allergies & some other issues that I hope are going to be minor. I appreciate your sweet concern.

Have a beautiful 4th week.

Hi Sandie, Thanks for the comment you left on my "Tybee" post. It's a cute, quaint, "little" island...and it's where I grew up. Love you're following my blog. I really enjoy yours too!

So…. you have given me the greatest gift, then!!! Thank you so much, my friend!

I think hopes and goals are great to have, and I don't think that this was talking about that. It said something about things that CAN'T be achieved... at least that's the way I read it. That might be like coveting, and I get the feeling he was saying not to dwell on that kind of thing to the point where you aren't enjoying what you DO have and can achieve. We need to be happy with the things God has given us, and pray for the things we do hope for...

Hey Angela... I burned some boiled eggs a few months ago... the shells had turned brown, but I cooled them down and ate them and they really had a different taste that I kind of liked... Maybe a "roasted" flavor?
