Grandson's BIble School Art Work

Okay look at the fish not the junk! Give a man a fish he eats for a day - teach a man how to fish - he'll eat for a lifetime. I have been using this quote a lot the last couple of weeks.

GS made a peacock. Out of paint, paint stirrers, and a bottle cap.

And a round solid piece of wood for the body.

I am not sure what this is supposed to be on the peacock???

What's in a name? Now this had our last name on it - I put roses over it - so if you make one - put the last name of your family on it. It is a big block of wood - painted and the hanger is made of beads and wire.

Now his dad doesn't live with us - but he put him in here anyway. That's okay with us.

The faces are rocks and then the GS painted them. My grandson is the only person that can spell my name Sandy - I changed it at age 15 to Sandie. I wanted to change myself from who I had been to who I am now - or at least it was the beginning of my journey or metamorphosis .

So what is in a name? Do you remember going to Vacation Bible School? Did you ever change your spelling? What does your name mean to you?

You know I don't remember VBS...just when my grandkids went! (maybe they didn't have VBS in my day). I'll be away from the computer for awhile..don't know when I'll be able to comment again..but take care)

Don't remember VBS, so I can't comment on that. As for a name, my given name is Cheryl but I think that is too formal and apparently my family did as well since EVERYONE calls me Cheri, but hardly anyone ever spells it correctly. Back in the day you were never given a nickname as your name on your Birth Cert. you had to put the formal version...so hence the Cheryl.

I remember!...I loved making the crafts, using everyday items and making something so sweet.

So at the young age of 15, you changed your name from Sandy to Sandie!!..do tell!

VBS was always a hit with my kids! They loved the crafts, the pageants, the singing...well everything! I think it should be a part of every little one's summer. I've had so many nicknames in my life I never had the need to actually change my name. I do feel like each nickname gave me a different part of me.

oh no, my name is a hot button to me.
my name is Sandra, and i was never called Sandy and did not want to be. mother and daddy called me Samar but no one else did.
my hot button is i don't want to be called Sandy. when i introduce myself I say hi, I am Sandra, when they leave they say nice to meet you Sandy. i will have Sandra on my name tag and everyone changes it to Sandy.
to make this short, everyone, and i do mean everyone changes my name from Sandra to Sandy and when i say i prefer Sandra they continue to call me Sandy. because of this when i was growing up, i threatened to change my name to Cassandra, but never got around to it.
if I meet someone named Elizabeth, i don't call her betty or beth or liz unless she says that. ok, off my hot button
sign me Sandra

Love the grandson's artwork. I used to go to VBS and still remembered making a vase from painted and broken egg shells glued to a pretty shaped bottle.

As for the name issue, my name is Millicent Patricia...named for my grandmother who I adored, but I didn't like her name. Neither did Mum. So I've always gone by my middle name. When I was young I was called Patsy until a new family moved in beside us with a girl my age called Patsy. To avoid confusion I started being called Pat, and have been so ever since. Over the years I've come to like and appreciate Millicent but it's too late to start asking everyone to use it and I'd never want it shortened to Milly anyway. Guess I'll always be Pat the Brat.

My favorite name now though is Grammie!

I remember helping at VBS when I was a teenager and loving it. VBS crafts are always fun.

Looks like you have a little artist in your house ;-) Cute!

Never went to VBS, never went to Bible school. I had Catechism every day with the Catholic nuns as part of my daily curriculum.

My name is unusual, especially now because when you hear 'Doris' you picture an old dorky lady - which, I guess, could be correct in my case LOL

I never thought of changing it and many of my friends in CA call me just D and that's fine by me. D sounds younger, than Doris, doesn't it?

Well, guess what, Sandie?
You

THE

You won the Santa from my Christmas in July Giveaway!

Congratulations :-) and have a wonderful day!

Ohhhh, GS is a good little artist! His creations are so cute. I loved the "rock" faces! What a great idea.

All through my growing up years I was called "Sue." Now, as an adult, I dislike that nickname. I always say "Susan" when someone reverts to "Sue." Just like Susan better. It's hard to change family members from referring to me as "Sue" but I try.

Have a wonderful day. SUSAN

GS is quite the artist! Love his work. :)

Never thought too much about my name; however in high school I was called Grannie. LOL

I've always loved being Mom and then MeMaw. All of my granddaughter's friends call me that also. :)

Oh, I have wonderful memories of VBS! We always made neat crafts and had cookies and kool-aid. :) Glad your grandson had a good time. We're having a VBS next week for our church kids.
I have always liked my name, but some people like to shorten it to "Mel". I really do not like that!! It always makes me think of Mel's Diner on Alice. Ha Ha!

Cute stuff they make in VBS! I added and E to Kimberly for many years, I spelled it Kimberley. Changed it back to birth certificate spelling when I saw it:) I did not know I was spelling my name wrong!

I loved making crafts in VBS. We made a house out of popcicle sticks and a pair of cufflinks for my father. I was very shy though, so I remember feeling afraid too. I love the quote at the beginning of your page.

My name? I would like to change it; I suppose because I am a different person than I was as a child. My sister changed her name to Liz from Lisa. She said she never felt like a Lisa. :)

Now there's some lovely craft work your GS has made! Impressive :-) Thank you so much for sharing.

Have a lovely day my friend.

I LOVE all these crafts he made, they make a very cool and colorful post, and will give moms and grandmas ideas!! My real first name, are you ready?? Frances!! The whole thing is a long story, but Ginny is short for my middle name, Genevieve. Congratulations on your win over at Doris' blog! I was so happy to know that YOU were the one who won!

Hi Chatty. Your grandson did some good artwork there, and I bet he had real fun making it. My house is getting filled with home-made cards, paintings and little things from the grandchildren. I think it's nice to display it, so that they can see how much it means to you!

I never really liked my maiden name, so even though I'm divorced I'm happy with that new name. :)

I love those very cute crafts, and I remember VBS so well!

Yes, I do remember VBS! It's the first place I learned the song "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so." I took that truth into my heart at 4 years old. Hope your little guy has an experience like that.

Very nice art work. Be sure and tell him I said so.

Yes, I went to VBS and then when I got to be too old I became a teacher's assistant. I've been going through old photos lately and I came across a group picture of all the kids from VBS one year. They must have had a photographer come and take it. There were a ton of kids, but now the church is mostly elderly people. I know when I went I always begged my mother to let me go to the Catholic Church because their youth group always had fun. They got to dance, but we weren't allowed. :)

I have wonderful memories of VBS. We used to line up outside the xhurch then march in to the VBS theme songs. Then we would pledge allegance to the American Flag and the Bible. I loved it!

Yes, I went through times of spelling my name differently. Seems like we "girls" are the ones who do that. I don't remember guys ever doing that, do you?

Since I was active in a church as a child, as a teen, in college --and then worked for a church for over 25 yrs... I was VERY involved with VBS for WAY TOO MANY years... If you ask me if I miss it, the answer is NO.. BUT-it is good for kids (and we got to tell unchurched kids about Jesus during VBS)... Praise God for that!!!

My name is Elizabeth Bruce Banks... My folks started calling me Betsy and it stuck. Guess I didn't look like an Elizabeth... ha

I was always upset about my middle name since --at that time--it was a boy's name. Now-it doesn't matter, and I love it since I love Family History, and Bruce is a family name...

Hugs,
Betsy

Love that quote. I keep wishing my girls were still young enough to go to VBS. Such and important part of summer. The VBS's are getting so much better these days with "themes" and all. Maybe someday I will have grandkids and I can see-to-it that they go : )

My name: it is always messed up by others! Therefore, I go by whatever people call me!!! Once in central american my drivers license came back Shandra. I told them there was no r and the officer said, "Are you sure?" Yeah, right!

I don't remember VBS - but I did do Pioneer Girls for awhile at church. Kinda a church version of Girl Scouts. It was fun -

GS is very talented - I LOVED the rock family!

When I was quite young and in elementary school (Stone Age), I thought "Sharon" was too formal a name. So I changed it (not legally!) to Shari. My goodness, everyone spelled it all sorts of wrong ways!

Around age 25, I felt more like Sharon again. However, my husband, who's known me since 4th grade, is the only one who still calls me Shari - cuz that's what he's always known me as!

Sharon to me reminds me of the Rose of Sharon - and I just love all the Bible connotations of that!

I never went to vacation bible school. I don't recall even having that when I was growing up.
The name on my birth certificate is Anna. My entire family calls me Annie. When I started school my mother insisted that if anyone try to call me Ann I should correct them and tell them my name was Anna. I hated Anna. I went to school and introduced myself to everyone as Ann :)

I LOVED VBS... I really loved the crafts and the singing... the ending play and the Bible Races. I know that's why I never have a problem finding a scripture if I need one or if the Preacher says to look up one. I also loved teaching in VBS as I got into High School and older, and when my kids were little. It broke up the long summer months. That and the Library! :)

I've always been Linda. Not a name you can change easily, I guess. :)
