Saturday Service Information

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car.The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.

If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or asexual abuse crime.
Thanks Debbie at Just Breathe

Now why didn't we think of this? Good idea - right? It'll save the fingers.

Brilliant idea about the car alarm, Sandie. Quite often, it's just simple things that we can sometimes overlook. I know that they also say that most people keep the keys to the car in the hall, so easy for a burglar toget at if he did break in. Loved the quote at the end about riches. You always find the best things for us my friend. Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

great idea to use the comb. remember last week when one of your post said bananas last longer if they are pulled apart? its true, for 2 weeks i have pulled them apart and both weeks one lasted a full week, i just ate one from last Saturday. hooked together they were lasting til thursday. i know the car key works from inside the house because i scared bob to death, he was working in the garage next to my vue and i picked up my keys and accidently hit that little red horn and it started blaring like crazy, i was in the kitchen. it is a great idea, but not to keep them by the bed, just walk in the kitchen and use it. if i dont keep my keys right on the kitchen counter they would get lost.
another piece of advice. our neighbor keeps all their keys hanging just inside the door. she had people working in her kitchen, so they new where she kept the keys, one night while they were asllep, someone removed the glass from the door, ran their hand inside grabbed the keys and stole there car, never to be found again.

Wow! What a brilliant idea about the car alarm...very smart. It's sad that you cannot feel completely safe in your home. I don't have a car, but have the indoor alarm here in my apartment...makes me feel a bit safer during the night.
I really like the idea using the comb and hammer..to save your fingers...lol..!
Thoughtful words there at the end - like it a lot!
Have a lovely day my friend!
Big hugs

Eva

I always say I'm going to put my keys by my bed but I never seem to do it. It makes so much sense!

Great idea about the car alarm. I don't know how it would work at my house because we don't have many neighbors living at the edge of town. But maybe it would scare off the burglars if, God forbid, we should ever have one! Thanks for sharing this. Have a wonderful weekend, Sandie!
Hugs, Cheryl

Great idea to activate the car thingy like that! I wouldn't have thought about that! I did check out the speed traps for my city and absolutely right on a majority of them! We have one literally right outside our door; you come over a hill and you are suppose to slow down to 25 to do so, no one does; the police are always working our street catching people :)

have a great weekend!

Someone was very clever to think of using a comb to hold a nail. I could have used this idea a few days ago. I hope I remember it.

Guess I will have to go looking for one of those speed traps and maybe I can get a ticket. I have NEVER had a ticket of any kind:) (Knock on wood)

We should all do the car alarm thing! And now I will stop throwing away combs that I don't like!

BOTH great tips. I had read the key one, and I actually do that now when I'm home alone. I should probably do it when the husband is here, but he thinks I'm a big chicken as it is.

Love the comb trick and the thought for the day, too.

Good idea on using the car alarm. That assumes your bedroom is close enough to the car so you can set if off. Our bed is over 72 feet away with three walls the signal would have to go through.
Plus the clickers came with our car making the batteries seven years old (for Mrs. Jim's, would be fourteen years old for my car).

Such clever ideas! Thanks Sandie

I keep my car keys by the bed for this reason and also because I have a whistle on it that would scare the heck out of everyone. We also have this inexpensive little motion dectector alarm that we used in our gallery back east. It's pointed at the RV door so anyone coming in will set it off instantly. As a moth did the other night :)

I keep my keys beside my purse on a table by the back door..MISTAKE! Thanks so much for this food for thought. I would never have given this a thought!

That is such a good idea about the car alarm, and the comb as well. Thanks for sharing!

Good advice on the car keys. Everyone should think of this every night until it is a habit.

But the comb and nail thing, that is for sissies, expose the fingers, enjoy the damage and blood blisters, be tough!!! Don't use a comb!! hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahaha

(A couple times this week I shoulda used the comb! LOL)

Hi Sandie...You know, I never thought about that car alarm idea but it's a good one. Cheaper than a burlar alarm system, too. Take care. Susan

That car alarm idea is a GOOD one. Of course, around here, we would probably just scare a bunch of deer to death. :)

SquirrelQueen said...

That's a great idea about the keys. If nothing else at least one neighbor would call the police to complain about the noise.

I love the comb idea! That is brilliant. I think I might put one in my tool box for future use.

I'm not sure I have a panic button on my keys but it's a great idea, but the comb is even better! Thanks!

The car alarm is a super idea! I can't believe I haven't thought of it. The comb is very helpful too! Love the last thought. :)

It's terrible how we have to worry about our safety so much. I have an alarm system, as do most people in my development. However, we live in the country, and not the city and you would think we would feel safer. We are constantly reminded though, that no one is immune to the dangers that lurk out there.

Blondee said...

That's a great idea! And in this day and age, most people have a car alarm. :)
