Hope You Have A Happy 4th of July!

AND OUR NATION UNDER GOD

FACTS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW:

  • Congress made Independence Day an official unpaid holiday for federal employees in 1870. ...Massachusetts recognized the Fourth of July as an official holiday on July 3, 1781, making it the first state to do so.
  • Only John Hancock actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776...the bulk of the other 54 men signed an official engrossed (finalized and in larger print) copy on August 2, with others to follow at a later date. Hancock (boldly) signed his name again on the updated version.
  • The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.
  • The average age of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence was 45.
  • We'll eat an obscene amount of hot dogs.
  • We will spend billions of food.
  • THREE PRESIDENTS HAVE DIED, AND ONE WAS BORN, ON THE FOURTH.  You probably know that both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on July 4, 1826—50 years to the day after the Declaration of Independence was adopted. They're not the only presidents to have died on the Fourth, though; James Monroe—the nation’s fifth president—died just a few years later on July 4, 1831.Though the holiday might seem like it has it out for former presidents, there was one future leader born on Independence Day. The country's 30th Commander-in-Chief, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4, 1872.

MAY THE 4th be with you too!

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

JOKE!
This t-shirt was the one he wore in the hospital when he was born!
He would kill me now if he knew I shared this, but one day he might understand.

Nice entry of facts. Yes, there is a lot we have forgotten from school about our country, I hope they are still teaching our History. The 4th is a good time to do some recounting. This is the best and greatest country in the world and I am privileged to have been born here.

I hope you have a fun-filled holiday. I always enjoy the fireworks on that day. However, I am not a fan of those shooting them off for the month and more afterwards. Our Vets and pets have a tough time with all that noise.

May the Fourth be with you too! This week is going to be a fun time for many. I've been hearing fireworks going off for over a week already in my neighborhood. Fireworks displays will be mostly on Wednesday in our area. I don't go to see them anymore, but sometimes, if I'm lucky I'll see some at a distance from my window. Happy 4th of July! Enjoy!

Happy 4th to you, too! May we always celebrate freedom in this country! Thanks for all the history reminders. Love Disco with his headdress and your grandson with the tee-shirt. Yes, lately, kids are saying, "don't post this on Facebook" and you're right, they don't understand. But the blog? Heh, heh! Someday they will love it.

I love the picture of your grandson with his shirt from being a newborn! My has he grown, LOL!

I didn't know some of those facts you shared about the 4th of July, like the one with how many presidents died on it. Very interesting.

I hope you have a nice 4th of July, Sandie! It will be a quiet one here but I'm sure a lot of kids will be putting on fireworks around the neighborhood. How does Disco do with fireworks?

Aahh, poor Disco is not going to like hearing the fireworks on the 4th. Most dogs don't and they hide under anything they can. I like the quote on the joyful words, that's a special one. And I LOVE the picture of your grandson with the t-shirt he wore when he was born. They do grow up fast, Sandie. I saw Francesca this weekend, and she gets bigger every time. Not doing much for the fourth, but like you, glad to be free!

Have a good day, dear friend.

love, ~Sheri

Hi Sandie...
So glad to read Massachusetts was the first state to declare July 4th as an official holiday. Actually, it's the state for a LOT of firsts."
Yes, grandson would definitely kill you if he saw the photo you posted but heck, it's so doggone cute. Happy 4th, Sandie. Hugs. Susan

Hi my dear friend. Am back again.

It's an unpaid holiday? Is it still so till today? Interesting bits of info coz I never thought of that as over here holidays mostly are paid. And if required to work, employer have to pay double.

You kept the T-shirt for so long. Didn't do any "konmarie" . LOL
