I learned something at my bible study that I thought was interesting and wanted to share it with you.
The study is called 'The Gospel on the Gound' - by Kristi McLellan a Bible professor at a college in Mississippi.
The book is about how, after Jesus died - just how did the gospel spread then??
This part of it really didn't have much to do with how the gospel spread, but I found it incredibly interesting about how God takes care of us and things work out in the end - even after horrific circumstances.
This is a story from the early 1930's from Kell, Germany whose population was 500 at the time.
They think that the wife of Rabbi Posner took this photograph. She was taking a photo of the Menorah during the holidays and the Nazi symbol just happened to be in the background because their headquarters were there. She didn't realize it at the time.
Ironic - the photo caught both?
https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/menorah-defies-nazi-flag/ To read more.
"It was the eighth night of Chanukah in Kiel, Germany, a small town with a Jewish population of 500. That year, 1931, the last night Chanukah fell on Friday evening, and Rabbi Akiva Boruch Posner, spiritual leader of the town was hurrying to light the Menorah before the Shabbat set in.
Directly across the Posner’s home stood the Nazi headquarters in Kiel, displaying the dreaded Nazi Party flag in the cold December night.
With the eight lights of the Menorah glowing brightly in her window, Rabbi Posner’s wife, Rachel, snapped a photo of the Menorah and captured the Nazi building and flag in the background.
She wrote a few lines in German on the back of the photo. “Chanukah 5692, (1932), “Death to Judah”, So the flag says, “Judah will live forever”, So the light answers."

I think that was so amazing - that in their darkest hour - and maybe hope seemed
so far away - that God was still there.
They begged Rabbi Posner to leave the city for his safety and he did. Almost all the 500 people left and most of the population of Jewish people including the Posner's survived.

What an amazing photo and story

That picture says a lot. I wish the candle had outlasted the Nazis but it seems they still have a following wanting to stamp out the Jewish faith.
Thanks for sharing. It is an amazing photo. Too many people seem to have discarted God and are relying on themselves more and more but God is always so neer, waiting for us to accept his boundless love.
God's love will triumph.
I've been following the rivival at the Asbury College in Kenturky.
It's been going day and night for days and is has spread to 20 other college and people are driving for hours to attend. God is still in charge.
Take care and have a great day.
Hugs,
Julia

WOW! What an amazing story and photograph. It makes you wonder what happened to that family in the long run.
Thanks for sharing this and have a great Monday! xo Diana
Truly an amazing photo and story behind it. Thanks very much for sharing it.
We must NEVER forget!
The picture with the Nazi flag and the Menora says it all. Two symbols: one of evil, the other of light and compassion. Evil will lose, Light will win. That's God's will.
Thanks for sharing this piece of history.
What a story! I loved it! And especially that you actually showed to photo. I am so glad they were able to escape.
What a great story.. amazing.
That photo is amazing. I like what she wrote on the back.
Yes, God is still on the throne...

What a powerful, poignant photo! It sure gives meaning to the term "a picture is worth a thousand words", doesn't it? That's pretty interesting about the battery test. Tom's got a meter, but I think this would be more fun.
What a story and photos so gripping and moving
A very interesting story. Glad the ending was for the good although so many lost their lives to that cruel ideology. Just hoping our wokeness here now is not going to destroy us. A sad part of history, but I always fell God has a plan for us all. Janice
That's an interesting story, Sandie. I like what she wrote on the back, "Our light will outlast their flag." They mention Shabbat in The Chosen, so it is becoming familiar to me. That was such an ugly time back then in Germany, but the light always shines through the darkness.
I like this quote and picture you shared. It seems right on, with everyone constantly looking at their phones. I'll send you another quote and picture I have that is similar to this, I think you'll like it.
Have a delightful week, Sandie. How is the search for housing going?

Very interesting story and picture. I love that quote at the end, SO TRUE! Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!
That was a wonderful story and should remind us all never to give up. Light does shine through the darkness and that why we should all share out light with others. So many terrible things happened to the Jewish people but they still exist. So grateful for the survivors. Thanks so much for sharing this story!
Wow, what a photo. Interesting that she was so focused on the Menorah, she didn't see the Nazi flag.
Many thanks for sharing this photograph.
I hope your new house hunt is going well, and not too stressful.
All the best Jan
