It was a great movie - HAVE YOU SEEN IT?

Gone With the Wind was written by a Georgia woman, named Margaret Mitchell. Her house still stands as a Memorial to her.

Being from GA I thought that everyone knew about the book or had least seen the excellent, but LONG movie.  

Since then, I have found some people that have not watched it and know nothing about it!!!!

Margaret Mitchell was killed crossing her beloved and famous Peachtree Street with her husband when she was 48 years old.  Hit by a drunk driver.

It was the only book she ever wrote and was given the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937.

Lowe's Theater

The movie was first played here at The Lowe's Theater here in downtown Atlanta.  There was a massive fire in 1978 leading to its demolition. 

Gone With the Wind - when taking in inflation - makes it one of the top grossing films of all time.  

While the book is fiction - there was not one false fact regarding the Civil War in it.

Vivian Leigh - Scarlett

Fourteen thousand women auditioned for the roll!!  The movie actually started in production before Vivial Leigh was picked to do the roll.

She died at 53 from chronic tuberculous and bi-polar.

She had a problem kissing Clark Gable because of the odor - of his false teeth and smoking.

Clark Gable - Rhett

Ended the movie with the famous iconic words that still ring today, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a dam." 

Which I think was one of the first swear words allowed in a movie.

Died at 59 in 1960 from a heart attack.

He had dyslexia.

Peachtree Street

There is one main Peachtree Street in Atlanta with at least 71 other streets with the word Peachtree in it.  There are many places with the word Peachtree in it as well.

Atlanta grew up from a site of the Creek Indians - and they had a site called Standing Peachtree - which is where Peachtree was picked up from.

So, no grid patterns here - there are no real 'blocks'.  The roads snake around and changes names making it an interesting place to drive.

No real reason for writing about this except that I thought it was interesting!
